China triumphed in a thrilling third set to wrap up a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Brazil in the women’s FIVB Grand Prix Group J1 at the Nanjing Olympic Sports Centre on Wednesday, reports China Daily.
Leading by two sets to nil by virtue of 25-22 and 25-17 set wins, the Chinese ladies eventually came out on top in the third by 29 points to 27 to move to the summit of their final round group.
Zhu Ting was the heroine for the hosts with 16 points, while Zhang Changning contributed 14 points of her own. In defence, Yuan Xinyue and Ding Xia contributed an impressive seven blocks between them to help seal the win.
China’s next match is against the other team in the three-country group, The Netherlands, on Friday evening. A win against the Dutch will see the Chinese advance to the group semi finals. In Group 1’s other final round fixture, Serbia held off an American fightback to win 15-11 in the final set.
