Chinese training for Jamaican nurses

Eighteen nurses from Jamaica are set to become the first group to benefit from a pioneering exchange programme between the Chinese and Jamaican government.

That’s according to the Jamaica Observer, who write that the nurses, together with their supervisors, will travel to China later in June for both classroom and clinical training.

A similar programme will see another group of nurses participate in training in the UK.

The newspaper reports that…

…the Government of Jamaica is thankful for the support of its counterparts in the UK and China, as well as local stakeholders “for exercising creativity and flexibility to allow this pragmatic out-of-the-box but necessary thinking to work.”

The programmes will allow Jamaica to rapidly increase the number of critical care nurses under training.

The selection of China as a medical training partner is an indication of the internationally high esteem in which Chinese medical education is increasingly seen.
