After Edinburgh, could Glasgow gain China flights?

Earlier in the year, we reported that the capital cities of China and Scotland will be linked directly for the first time after Hainan Airines revealed plans to launch flights between Edinburgh and Beijing.

The flights will be direct twice a week, and via Dublin at other times.

Commentators were quick to point out that they could provide a massive economic boost to the local economy in Edinburgh.

In the weeks since, there’s been optimism in the rest of the country that the flights will boost the Scottish economy as a whole.

For example, they’ve been described as ‘fantastic news for the highlands’ and ‘an exciting gear change’ for Scotland.

Now Glasgow airport has emerged as a front runner to welcome new flights from China.

That’s because the Scottish facility has signed an agreement with Shanghai airport which will seek to establish a direct link between the two cities.

The airports will also work together to share ideas and best practice opportunities.

An official alliance between the two facilities has been launched – flights could well be boarding soon!
