It’s not every day that a limo pulls up outside the studio, with chauffeur and entourage, so we were a bit excited. However, don’t be fooled, Katherine Castro might be a Hollywood star but she is not full of ego.
Fresh off a flight straight from LA she looked just like she’d done a photoshoot already. Compared to our resident uglies Gerry & Dave she instantly lit up the place.
Born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Katherine’s artistic talent and passion were obvious from the start. She was enrolled in ballet, jazz, tap and gymnastics. Katherine quickly became one of the most outstanding dancers in her school, winning numerous dance competitions while drawing comparisons to Rita Moreno.
By age 15 her on-camera talent emerged leading to a series of national commercials. At 17 she became host of a daily national variety show, simultaneously landing a recurring role in the weekly series “El Sótano”. But not only that she has trained at the Millenium Dance Complex learning Hip Hop, extreme martial arts and acro gymnastics…phew!
She is now one of NBC Latino’s Top 10 Standout Latinos at Sundance, a recipient of the Hollywood FAME Award and the Women in Film Association.
All in all, she has a pretty impressive resume. However, it’s what’s coming up now which excites us most…
Katherine’s New Film – Someday
Castro stars opposite The Girlfriend Experience star Chris Santos in Someday, helmed by J.S Mayank. The film follows two strangers, Melody and Adam, who meet on a 14-hour flight from Sydney to LA; Adam, (Santos), is a world-famous composer but Melody, (Castro), doesn’t recognize her flight companion seated next to her.
Along the way, they pour their hearts out – a connection made that is more beautiful, precisely because of its simple, fleeting nature.
This making its World Premier at the Romford Film Festival in the UK in May.
There was a lot to talk about, so Gerry & Dave got her in the studio to talk to her about it more
