LFW17: Leaf Xia

Colour, colour, colour – Leaf Xia’s collection demands attention with its quirky patterns and bold shades. Xia, who is just about to bite into a croissant as I interrupt, explains that the current line is a collaboration with Magnum ice creams.

The inspiration and ethos is a ‘hero’s mind’, the garments were made for young women who have grown up and transformed into independent superwomen. Xia herself reminds me of such a woman. She has had an ambitious career so far including a bachelor’s degree in womenswear from Parsons School of Design in New York, a runway show at Shanghai Fashion Week and most impressively, the opening of eight stores in China and one in New York.

She said: “I hope to open a store in London. This year, I’ve focused on making the clothes more commercial; although the colours may seem crazy, the silhouettes are very wearable.”

Fun and flirty, the collection warrants a bold and self-confident wearer who isn’t afraid to stand out from the crowd. The range includes fuchsia pink and blue with touches of canary yellow. The signature detail is the patchwork in shapes of strawberries, fish, leaves and of course – the face of Xia’s superwoman.
