Vice Premier Liu He arrived in Washington on Tuesday afternoon for economic and trade consultations with the U.S. side at the invitation of the U.S. government.
The Chinese President’s special envoy said that his ongoing visit aims to continue the in-depth communication with the U.S. side on bilateral economic and trade issues.
This comes as part of Liu He’s visit to Washington for economic and trade consultations with the U.S at the invitation of the U.S government.
These meetings are a continuation of the talks held in Beijing a fortnight ago and will focus on rebalancing the United States- China bilateral economic relationship.
U.S Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin is leading the discussions, along with Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and U.S Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer.
Liu He is chief of the Chinese side of the China – U.S comprehensive economic dialogue, leading a delegation whose members come from the major economic sectors of the Chinese government.
It is reported the Vice Premier met with Henry Kissinger, former U.S Secretary of State, who served under Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford, and congratulated him on his upcoming 95thbirthday.
Liu He also met with Kevin Brady, Chair of the House Ways and Means Committee, and with Orrin Hatch, President pro tempore of the U.S Senate.
The Vice Premier has been meeting with U.S officials after both countries have threatened in recent months to put tariffs on billions of dollars of each other’s exports.
