What We Know About E.ON Next’s New Lower Standing Charge Tariff Trial
What Happened
E.ON Next has announced a limited 12-month trial offering a lower standing charge tariff to selected customers. This initiative follows Ofgem’s directive requiring energy suppliers to provide such options. The trial aims to enhance customer choice regarding energy tariffs and assess the potential benefits of a lower standing charge.
Why It Matters
The previous E.ON Next trial in 2024 revealed that a significant portion of customers, particularly high consumption users, may not be on the most cost-effective tariff. In that trial, 64% of participants were high consumption customers, many of whom opted to stay on the lower standing charge tariff despite being informed of potentially cheaper alternatives. Julian Lennertz, Chief Commercial Officer at E.ON Next, emphasized the importance of monitoring this trial to ensure customers are not negatively impacted, particularly lower usage customers who may find their daily standing charges constitute a large part of their energy bills.
What’s Next
The trial will be closely observed to gather insights on how the lower standing charge tariff affects customer bills and overall satisfaction. Customers interested in this new tariff option can find more information on the E.ON Next website.
