What We Know About ENGIE’s Latest Developments in Renewable Energy

On February 25, 2026
engie — GB news

What Happened

ENGIE has officially launched its Assú Sol photovoltaic complex in Brazil, marking it as the company’s largest operational solar asset globally. The complex, located in Rio Grande do Norte, has an installed capacity of 895 MWp and spans 2,344 hectares, comprising 16 solar plants. This project was completed in December 2025 and received final approval from Brazilian authorities on February 13, 2026, following a total investment of BRL 3.3 billion.

Why It Matters

The Assú Sol complex is significant not only for ENGIE but also for Brazil’s renewable energy landscape. With the ability to generate enough electricity to meet the annual demand of approximately 850,000 people, this project aligns with Brazil’s growing emphasis on renewable energy. In 2025, Brazil added 7.4 GW of new large-scale electricity generation capacity, primarily driven by solar power, which is expected to continue its upward trajectory through 2030.

What’s Next

As ENGIE continues to expand its renewable energy portfolio, the company is poised to play a crucial role in Brazil’s energy transition. The successful operation of the Assú Sol complex may lead to further investments in renewable projects, contributing to the country’s goal of increasing its renewable capacity by 23.4% in 2026. This aligns with ENGIE’s strategic focus on sustainable energy solutions and its commitment to supporting global carbon neutrality efforts.
