Roma vs juventus: A Crucial Clash for Champions League Aspirations

On March 1, 2026
roma vs juventus — GB news

With Inter streaking clear in top spot, the teams below them in the Serie A table have turned their focus to Champions League qualification, for which a top-four finish is required.

Roma are currently sitting in fourth place, while Juventus trails closely in fifth. This makes their upcoming match a crucial one for both sides. Will the home advantage help Roma secure a victory, or will Juventus manage to snatch all three points from the capital?

Roma vs Juventus predictions

Ultimately, the challenge proved too great for Juventus to overcome.

They put up a commendable fight. Following a 5-2 loss to Galatasaray in the first leg of their Champions League knockout phase play-off last week, many Juventus supporters had resigned themselves to an early exit from the tournament.

In the return leg, Manuel Locatelli kept his composure from the penalty spot in the 37th minute, narrowing the deficit. However, after Lloyd Kelly received a red card early in the second half, it seemed Juventus’s chances were dwindling.

Yet, they rallied back. Goals from Federico Gatti and Weston McKennie leveled the aggregate score despite being a man down.

Juventus maintained the pressure, putting Galatasaray on the back foot, even with their numerical disadvantage. However, they were unable to find that crucial fourth goal, and their Turkish opponents struck twice in extra time, ending Juventus’s hopes.

Luciano Spalletti expressed pride in his players’ performance despite the setback. Juventus recorded an xG of 5.2 and had 28 attempts on goal against Galatasaray. With more clinical finishing, they might have advanced to the last 16.

Now, Juventus must focus on securing a spot in next season’s Champions League, a race in which Roma is also competing.

The title race appears to be all but decided, barring an unexpected collapse from Inter. Their 10-point lead should suffice even if they finish the season poorly.

Milan holds second place with 54 points, giving them a solid chance for Champions League qualification. Following them are Napoli with 50, Roma also at 50, and Juventus at 46, with Como and Atalanta both at 45. It’s likely that two of these teams will miss out on the top four.

Both teams head into this match with inconsistent form. Juventus has managed just one point from their last nine available in Serie A and recently faced elimination from European competition.

Roma, on the other hand, has fared slightly better, winning two of their last five league matches. Notably, two of those were respectable draws against Milan and Napoli, but Gian Piero Gasperini’s squad still has work to do in their quest for a top-four finish.

Roma vs Juventus betting tips

It’s fourth against fifth in Serie A as Roma hosts Juventus at the Stadio Olimpico.

Will Roma emerge victorious?

Roma’s performance in high-stakes matches this season has left much to be desired.

Gasperini’s squad has generally been reliable against teams they are expected to beat. However, they have dropped points on ten occasions, with seven of those against title or top-four contenders.

Nevertheless, Roma enters this match with a more positive mindset than Juventus, which could be pivotal.

They have also had a full week to prepare physically and mentally, and Roma can take confidence from having the second-best home record in the league.

While a one-sided match is unlikely, Roma should find a way to secure a win in front of their home crowd.

Goals anticipated in Rome

Gasperini is known for his attacking style. His Atalanta teams have played some of the most exciting football in Europe.

However, goals have been hard to come by for Roma this season. They have found the net only 34 times, ranking eighth in the division. Conversely, their defense is the strongest in Serie A.

After watching his team concede seven goals in their last three Serie A matches, along with seven in two games against Galatasaray, Spalletti will be eager for a more solid defensive display from Juventus.

A bet on under 2.5 goals has paid out in 73 percent of Roma’s league games this season, making it our second recommendation for Sunday’s match.

Malen: A player to keep an eye on

Donyell Malen has made a significant impact since joining Roma from Aston Villa during the January transfer window.

The former Borussia Dortmund player has already netted five times in just six league appearances for his new club.

Having joined recently, Malen is just one goal away from becoming Roma’s joint-highest scorer this season in Serie A.

No one who has watched him in recent weeks would be surprised if he finds the net against Juventus.
