Qatar Airways to Resume Limited Flights

“Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA) announces the partial resumption of air navigation in the State of Qatar, through designated navigational contingency routes with limited operational capacity,” stated a representative from the QCAA. This announcement comes as Qatar prepares to operate limited repatriation flights starting on March 7, 2026, following a week of airspace closures due to Iranian strikes.

The airspace closure, which began on February 28, 2026, was implemented as a precautionary measure amid escalating regional tensions. The conflict has had severe repercussions, resulting in over 1,332 deaths in Iran since the strikes commenced. In the wake of these developments, more than 2,000 flights have been cancelled at Doha’s Hamad International Airport, contributing to an estimated 23,000 flight cancellations across the region since late February.

Qatar Airways has announced that the initial flights will prioritize stranded passengers with confirmed bookings. “Priority on these flights was given to stranded passengers with families, elderly passengers, and those with urgent medical and compassionate travel needs,” said a spokesperson for Qatar Airways. Destinations for these repatriation flights include major European cities such as London (LHR), Paris (CDG), Madrid (MAD), Rome (FCO), and Frankfurt (FRA).

As the situation evolves, the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority is coordinating with the Qatari Armed Forces to ensure safe flight operations. “This phase includes the operation of a limited number of flights designated for passenger evacuation, in addition to the operation of air cargo flights,” the QCAA representative added. Regular flight schedules have not yet resumed, with updates expected on March 8, 2026.

The ongoing conflict has not only affected air travel but has also raised concerns about safety and security in the region. Kuwait’s airspace remains fully closed to commercial traffic due to the Iranian strikes, further complicating the travel landscape for many passengers.

Qatar Airways is actively working to organize additional relief flights where operationally possible. “We are working around the clock to organise additional relief flights where operationally possible and will share further updates as soon as they are confirmed,” the airline stated, emphasizing their commitment to assisting passengers during this challenging time.

As the situation develops, travelers are advised to stay informed about flight schedules and any potential changes. Details remain unconfirmed regarding the full resumption of regular flight operations, but the upcoming announcements are eagerly anticipated by many affected passengers.
