Emirates Suspends Flights Amidst Ongoing Conflict in Dubai
On March 7, 2026, Emirates airline announced a temporary suspension of all flights to and from Dubai International Airport following a series of blasts heard in the city. The decision came as the airline sought to ensure the safety of its passengers amid escalating tensions in the region.
In a statement released at 11:08 AM Dubai time, Emirates advised passengers to refrain from heading to the airport, emphasizing that updates would be provided as the situation evolved. The airline’s communication, however, led to confusion among travelers, particularly as conflicting reports emerged from its own social media accounts.
As the day progressed, the UK Foreign Office updated its travel advice for the UAE, urging British nationals to stay indoors or seek shelter if local authorities issued such guidance. This advisory came in light of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, which had entered its eighth day, raising concerns about safety in Dubai.
Reports indicated that around 6,500 Britons had returned from the UAE since the onset of the conflict, highlighting the urgency for many to leave the region. The Titan Airways flight, which departed from Muscat International Airport with a layover in Cairo, was scheduled to leave at 5:30 PM, while a government charter flight was expected to arrive at Gatwick Airport at 12:30 AM.
Despite the airline’s efforts to clarify the situation, passengers expressed frustration over the lack of consistent information. One customer on social media remarked, “This is so confusing. Are you guys open right now for flights leaving Dubai or not? Hearing conflicting reports, even from your own account – which is causing mass confusion.”
In response to the blasts, the government activated air defenses, further underscoring the seriousness of the situation. As the day unfolded, Emirates issued another update, stating, “Our post from 11:08 AM Dubai time regarding operational status is no longer current, and has been deleted to avoid causing unnecessary confusion.” This acknowledgment of miscommunication aimed to alleviate some of the uncertainty surrounding flight operations.
As the conflict continues to impact the region, travelers are advised to stay informed and heed local authorities’ guidance. The situation remains fluid, and details regarding the resumption of normal flight operations are yet to be confirmed.
