Iwd 2026: A Focus on Women in Motorsport and Leadership

On March 9, 2026
iwd 2026 — GB news

What does iwd 2026 signify for women in motorsport and leadership?

International Women’s Day 2026, celebrated on March 8, carries the theme ‘Give to Gain’. This theme highlights the importance of mutual support and collaboration in achieving gender equality across various sectors, particularly in motorsport where women have made significant strides in recent years.

Women have increasingly appeared across the motorsport ladder over the last decade, yet funding remains the most significant barrier facing female athletes in this competitive field. Notably, around 40-42 percent of fans of Formula 1 are now women, indicating a growing interest and participation in motorsport.

The Iron Dames project exemplifies the potential of female drivers, demonstrating that they can compete and win at the highest levels of endurance racing. Lilou Wadoux, who made history as Ferrari’s first-ever female factory driver in GT competitions, secured the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup title in 2025, further inspiring young female racers.

Programs such as the More than Equal Driver Development Programme are pivotal, as they support young female racers through a scientific, data-driven approach, aiming to dismantle the barriers that have historically hindered women’s progress in motorsport.

In addition to advancements in motorsport, women are also making significant contributions in leadership roles. Lynsey McLean serves as the General Manager of St Mirren FC, with Eilidh McKerry as the Financial Accountant and Karin Pointon as the Supporter Liaison Officer, showcasing the diverse roles women occupy in sports management.

Furthermore, Vanessa Lindstrom, the Global Director of Food Safety & Regulatory Compliance at United Airlines, emphasizes the importance of authentic leadership. She notes, “Michielle Sego Johnson, United Airlines VP Inflight Services and Catering Operations, is an authentic and inspirational leader,” reflecting the growing recognition of women’s leadership capabilities.

The last decade has shown how progress in motorsport is represented by a movement that builds structural change. As we approach iwd 2026, the focus on women’s achievements in both motorsport and leadership roles serves as a reminder of the ongoing journey towards equality.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding specific events planned for iwd 2026, but the emphasis on collaboration and support continues to resonate within the community. The call to ‘Give to Gain’ is more than a theme; it is a call to action for individuals and organizations alike.
