King Charles II to Attend Historic Racing Event

King Charles II is set to visit Berkeley Castle for a momentous day at the races from April 4 to 6, 2026. This immersive event will recreate a pivotal moment in English history, bringing visitors closer to the action as the ‘Merry Monarch’ presides over the festivities.

Tickets for this unique experience are priced at £17 for adults and £9 for children aged three and up, while children under three can attend for free. Family tickets for two adults and two children are available for £48, making it an accessible outing for families.

The highlight of the event will be the Cheltenham Festival, featuring the prestigious Unibet Champion Hurdle. Among the top competitors is Brighterdaysahead, rated 160, making her the best horse in the race by a narrow margin of 1lb over her closest rival, The New Lion, who holds a rating of 159.

Golden Ace, the previous year’s Champion Hurdle winner, will also be in contention, adding to the excitement of the race. The presence of King Charles II, along with a military parade featuring marching soldiers and musket fire in his honour, is expected to enhance the atmosphere significantly.

Matt Chapman, a well-known figure in horse racing, remarked, “I ended up tipping Brighterdaysahead. The reason I changed my mind is she’s, by 1lb, officially the best horse in the race with a mark of 160.” This endorsement highlights the competitive nature of the upcoming race.

However, not all opinions are in favour of Brighterdaysahead. Jockey Paddy Brennan expressed some skepticism, stating, “I see Brighterdaysahead is going to be stabled at Olly Murphy’s yard. Obviously they’re trying something different, but if you’re looking for cheekpieces for Lossiemouth and a stable in Olly Murphy’s for Brighterdaysahead … they’re not positives.”

The event promises to be a significant occasion, drawing attention not only for the horse racing but also for its historical context. As preparations continue, the excitement builds for what is anticipated to be a memorable gathering at Berkeley Castle.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding any additional attractions or activities that may be announced as the event date approaches. Enthusiasts and families alike are encouraged to secure their tickets early to partake in this historic celebration of horse racing.
