More than 10,000 users have reported issues with the app, with significant complaints emerging from major US cities including Los Angeles, Phoenix, Chicago, Washington, and New York.
According to Downdetector, over 6,000 users reported problems as of 10:03 PM EST on March 10. The majority of complaints, about 71%, were related to difficulties accessing Instagram, while 20% reported server connection problems and 5% indicated issues with their Instagram feed or timeline not loading properly.
Wider Impact and User Reactions
The outage has rendered Instagram’s messaging system completely non-functional, prompting users to turn to alternative platforms like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger to continue their conversations. Users have taken to social media to express their frustrations, with one user stating, “Is Instagram down? I can’t reply to my friend,” while another exclaimed, “Instagram down I REPEAT INSTAGRAM DOWN.”
Instagram has acknowledged the issue, stating, “We are aware some of you might be experiencing issues with IG at the moment. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible.” However, the cause of the disruption remains unclear, and it is not yet known when services will be fully restored.
This outage on March 10 highlights the ongoing challenges that Instagram faces in maintaining service reliability. Users have increasingly expressed the need for assurance that Meta Platforms is continuously improving infrastructure resilience and the reliability of direct messaging services.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding the specific cause of the disruption, but the significant number of complaints underscores the impact of the outage on users across various regions.
