Amber Davies Withdraws from Legally Blonde The Musical Due to Illness
Amber Davies Withdraws from Role
Amber Davies has pulled out of upcoming shows of Legally Blonde The Musical due to a lingering illness. The 29-year-old actress, who plays the lead role of Elle Woods, has been struggling with her health for a month and has been on antibiotics in an effort to recover.
In a recent update, Davies stated, “Ok update: After talking to my doctor, being on antibiotics and trying to recover whilst doing shows is getting me and my health NOWHERE.” This decision comes as she expressed concerns about the impact of continuing to perform on her recovery, saying, “I fear if I keep ‘pushing through’ I will be battling with this for longer than I need to be.”
Davies, who has garnered a significant following with 1.3 million followers on Instagram, previously starred in The Great Gatsby and won a WhatsOnStage award for her performance. She is also known for being a finalist on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing.
During Davies’ absence, her role will be taken over by understudy Hannah Lowther, who has her own impressive following of 1.3 million on TikTok. Lowther is expected to step in for the duration of Davies’ recovery.
Davies admitted to suffering from burnout, highlighting the challenges faced by performers in the demanding environment of musical theatre. “Just a reminder there’s absolutely never a right time to be poorly in a musical theatre schedule,” she noted.
The current tour of Legally Blonde is set to conclude in January 2027, leaving room for Davies to potentially return if her health improves. Observers are hopeful for her swift recovery, though details remain unconfirmed regarding her timeline for returning to the stage.
