Are you ready for Black Friday? Here are the top deals to nab this year
Last year, shoppers in the U.K. spent £5.8 billion on Black Friday both online and in-store. This year is expected to be bigger than ever; online retailer Amazon is even opening pop-up shop in London nicknamed the ‘Home of Black Friday’.
Hoping to grab yourself a bargain? Here’s a look at the top deals for 2017:
Amazon
After videos of American shoppers storming the Walmart department store went viral, waiting in line on Black Friday became a sport. Thankfully, those days are (almost) over. Most shoppers now wait online in the comfort of their own homes and Amazon is ready for them. The retailer started its Black Friday sale on Friday 17 November and will keep it going for 10 days, offering new deals each day. Amazon’s main draw is its major electronic offerings from the Xbox One S to LG’s 43-inch Ultra HD TV.
John Lewis
One of the U.K.’s largest retailers has joined in on the fun. Although John Lewis is honouring the tradition of a one-day Black Friday, it has hinted at Cyber Monday deals for its online customers, as well. Even better, it has stayed committed to the Never Knowingly Undersold policy, in which the department store compares prices against other high street stores to ensure that it offers the lowest prices on the market. Moreover, if you find that John Lewis sells your product for a cheaper price on its website than in-store, the salesmen will honour the cheaper price. It’s a one-stop shop with deals across all departments, from beauty to clothing, sports and leisure.
Argos
The retailer was a huge hit last year for its astronomical deals on household appliances and home electronics. In 2017, the best offerings include a Hitachi 43-inch HD TV that’s going for £289.99, saving customers £40 and a Dyson V6 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner being reduced from £469.99 to £229.99. If you’re looking to fill up your new home with modern designs and energy-efficient technology, this is the Black Friday queue to join.
New Look, Urban Outfitters, and ASOS
It’s not just about tech for Black Friday, there’s heaps of fashion, too. New Look is slashing prices with 25% off dresses, 2 for £12 tops and 2 for £15 knitwear. For a preview of what’s to come, Urban Outfitters is offering an exclusive first look at its Black Friday deals on 22 November with 40% off selected items. The brand will also slash prices from 23-26 November with 50% off selected items and £1 standard delivery online. Meanwhile, ASOS will be presenting a 70% discount on selected items across all departments. For a smaller but uniquely British brand, try Astrid & Miyu for 25% off all items on the website and in-store from 21-29 November, so you don’t have to push your retail therapy appointment to Friday.
Apple
Apple is quite cheeky with its Black Friday deals. The brand is careful not to publicise the deals so you need to go in-store, but it could be worth it; last year many retailers offered great prices on iPhone contracts, Macbooks, and the iPad Pro. With the recent release of the iPhone 8 and iPhone X, who knows what will end up under your tree this year!
