The UK is set to experience a significant shift in weather this bank holiday weekend, with heavy rain and thunderstorms expected to sweep across the country.
On Saturday, temperatures may peak at 25°C in eastern England, offering a brief respite of warmth before the stormy conditions roll in. However, by Monday, the forecast predicts a drop below 20°C nationwide. Greg Dewhurst from the Met Office noted that while temperatures are falling, “in the sunnier moments it is still above average for the time of year.”
As Saturday progresses, rain will begin to move southward. Grahame Madge highlighted that “we’ve got the prospect of some quite heavy, thundery showers coming into parts of southern England.” This pattern of heavy downpours will likely affect much of England and Wales by Saturday evening.
Interestingly, northern areas might escape the worst of it — they could remain largely dry throughout the weekend. Meanwhile, southern regions will be drenched with showers. Dan Harris elaborated on the situation: “Rain will reach southern England during the morning, spreading north into much of England and Wales later in the day, again heavy at times with a small risk of thunderstorms.”
By Monday, lingering clouds and scattered showers are expected across southern and central areas. Some parts of northern Scotland might see temperatures plummet into the low teens. It wouldn’t be a Bank Holiday weekend in the UK without a bit of rain, would it?
