Borderlands 4 Sees Significant Performance Improvements for PC Players
When Borderlands 4 launched in Fall 2025, it faced a steep decline in player engagement, losing 96% of its player base within just two months. Despite receiving largely positive reviews from critics, the game struggled to maintain its audience, prompting developers to take action.
In a recent update, Gearbox has announced significant improvements in the game’s performance for PC users. The average frames per second (FPS) has jumped by approximately 20% since the release of Version 1.0.2, with the latest Version 1.5 showcasing impressive enhancements.
For players running the game on minimum specifications, average framerates have risen from 37.32 FPS to 52.79 FPS. Those with high-end setups, such as an RTX 4090, have seen an increase from 54.96 FPS to an impressive 78.43 FPS.
Moreover, the frequency of game crashes has drastically decreased. The crash rate has nearly halved, dropping from 0.63% to just 0.38% of all gaming sessions. This improvement has also led to a reduction in the number of players experiencing crashes, which fell from 17% to 9.35%.
Players have expressed relief and satisfaction with these updates. One enthusiastic gamer remarked, “Borderlands 4 is in a different place than when it came out, and that’s for the best for PC players.” This sentiment reflects a growing optimism within the community as they witness the developers’ commitment to enhancing their gaming experience.
In addition to performance upgrades, developers have also reworked the appearance of low-detail meshes, ensuring that players enjoy a seamless visual experience while exploring the game’s expansive world of Kairos.
As the team at Gearbox continues to refine the game, they remain dedicated to allowing players to adjust their gaming experience according to personal preferences. This commitment to player satisfaction is a promising sign for the future of Borderlands 4.
Observers anticipate that these ongoing improvements will not only retain current players but also attract new ones who may have been hesitant to join the Borderlands universe due to initial performance issues. The road ahead seems bright for this beloved franchise as it evolves to meet the expectations of its dedicated fanbase.
