Dennis Taylor’s Insights on Mark Allen’s World Championship Potential
In a bold statement ahead of the 2026 World Championship, Dennis Taylor has declared that Mark Allen possesses the talent and skill necessary to win the prestigious title. Taylor, a former World Champion himself, emphasized, “He can definitely do it. I think he doesn’t like it when I say he’s going to win it.” This endorsement comes as Allen prepares to compete at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, a venue synonymous with snooker excellence.
Mark Allen, who has reached the semi-finals of the World Championship in both 2009 and 2023, is yet to secure a title at this iconic event. His journey has been marked by significant achievements, including a remarkable 147 break at the Crucible and a total of 12 ranking titles. As the tournament kicks off on April 18 and runs until May 4, Allen’s supporters are hopeful that this could be his year.
The Crucible Theatre has hosted the World Championship since 1977, becoming a hallowed ground for snooker enthusiasts. Taylor, who famously won the championship in 1985, understands the weight of expectation that comes with competing in such a revered venue. The current capacity of the Crucible stands at 980, but exciting plans are underway for a £45 million refurbishment that will add up to 500 seats, ensuring that more fans can witness the drama unfold.
Funding for the refurbishment includes £10 million from the government and £25 million from local authorities, demonstrating a strong commitment to preserving snooker’s legacy in Sheffield. As the current World Champion, Zhao Xintong, expressed, “I am so happy because I love the Crucible, it is a very special place and all Chinese players want to play there.” This sentiment reflects the global appeal of the sport, particularly in China, where an estimated 60 million active players are engaged in snooker.
As the tournament approaches, the excitement is palpable, with fans and players alike eager to see if Mark Allen can finally break through and claim the title that has eluded him. Observers will be watching closely to see if Taylor’s confidence in Allen translates into success on the green baize. Sheffield loves snooker, and with the World Championship set to remain in the city until at least 2045, the future of the sport looks bright.
