EasyJet Implements New Cabin Baggage Rules Amid Flight Delays

On April 12, 2026
easyjet — GB news

In recent months, EasyJet passengers have faced a series of frustrating delays, with one passenger reporting a staggering 14-hour delay due to a technical issue. This has led to a growing expectation for the airline to enhance its operational protocols and improve passenger experience during such disruptions.

However, in a surprising turn of events, EasyJet has now implemented a ban on knitting needles in cabin luggage, a decision that aligns with their existing policy against sharp objects. Previously, passengers could carry items like scissors with rounded ends or knives with blades not exceeding 6cm, but the new rule categorizes knitting needles as sharp objects, thus prohibiting them from hand luggage.

As EasyJet spokespersons explain, “Sharp objects or items with pointed edges that could cause injury are not allowed in cabin baggage.” This move has been met with mixed reactions from passengers who are already grappling with the stress of delays and cancellations.

In light of the recent delays, which have left many passengers waiting for hours, EasyJet has also reiterated its commitment to passenger rights. For delays of two hours or more, passengers are entitled to food and drink vouchers, while those facing delays of three hours or more may qualify for financial compensation. If a delay extends overnight, the airline provides hotel accommodations and transport.

Despite these measures, the frustration among travelers remains palpable. One passenger noted that after waiting for 12 hours, they were left feeling helpless and anxious about their travel plans. EasyJet has acknowledged these challenges, stating, “Unfortunately, many factors come together that can lead to our flights being delayed. This may be for safety reasons and required regulatory approvals.”

As the airline navigates these operational hurdles, it is clear that the impact on passenger sentiment is significant. The combination of new baggage rules and ongoing delays has created a challenging environment for travelers, who are seeking clarity and reassurance from the airline.

Moving forward, EasyJet’s commitment to transparency and passenger support will be crucial in rebuilding trust. The implementation of the new cabin baggage rules, while aimed at enhancing safety, may also require further communication to ensure that passengers feel understood and valued during their travel experiences.
