The Miami Grand Prix, part of the Formula 1 calendar since 2022, has seen a significant change in its start time. Originally set for 4 PM local time, it will now begin at 1 PM on May 3, 2026. The adjustment comes as officials anticipate severe thunderstorms that could disrupt the event.
In a joint statement, the FIA, Formula 1, and Miami promoter announced, “Following discussions between FIA, F1 and the Miami promoter, the decision has been taken to move the start of Sunday’s Miami Grand Prix to 13:00 local time in Miami due to the weather forecast that is expected to bring heavier rainstorms later in the afternoon close to the original planned race start time.” This proactive measure aims to ensure safety and maintain the integrity of the race.
Kimi Antonelli, currently leading in the world championship standings, will take pole position. His performance has been closely watched this season—especially with Mercedes having won the first three races of 2026. The team looks poised for another strong showing at the Miami International Autodrome.
As fans prepare for an earlier race day, there’s a mix of excitement and concern. Observers have noted that changes like this can affect team strategies and fan attendance, especially with such short notice. Weather conditions are notoriously unpredictable in Florida, adding an extra layer of intrigue.
With just days before the event, teams are adjusting their plans accordingly. While the early start may help avoid potential storms, it also shifts how drivers and crews will approach their pre-race routines. It’s a delicate balance between preparation and adaptation.
The Miami GP continues to be a highlight of the Formula 1 season. Fans can expect thrilling competition as drivers navigate both their rivals and unpredictable weather conditions on race day.
