Goldie fined for Glastonbury assault as judge criticises ‘arrogant’ musician

The 52-year-old producer and DJ forced Dennis Poole into a headlock after the bouncer refused to let his 20-year-old daughter into the restricted area near the Pyramid Stage in June last year.

Goldie, real name Clifford Joseph Price, had appeared in court via FaceTime in March, pleading guilty from his home in Thailand.

Witnesses described him as a “raging bull” who had “puffed his chest” out before punching Mr Poole and ending up on the floor with the other man, who suffered scratches, a sore ear and grazed elbow.

“The man with the gold teeth got Dennis on the floor and was on top of him,” another security guard said.

Goldie, known for his distinctive gold teeth, became well known as a graffiti artist before rising to prominence as a DJ and producer in jungle and drum and bass.

The judge called his actions “entirely unjustified” and said they demonstrated an “arrogant sense of entitlement” based on his own self-importance.

After the fine was passed Mr Price hugged his daughter, Chance Price, outside court, saying he was “happy” and had “taken a bullet” for the girl.

The 20-year-old, who had never been to a festival before, had been denied entry to the restricted area and called her father for assistance.

He was due to be interviewed by Radio One presenter Annie Mac, but when it emerged he too did not have a wristband for the restricted area problems emerged.

Price was fined £1,080 at Bristol Magistrates’ Court by judge David Taylor, and ordered to pay £500 in compensation to Mr Poole, a £108 victim surcharge and £775 in costs.

The bouncer has said he had been forced to give up his career of six years as a result of the incident.
