Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei has set its sights on becoming the world’s most popular phone manufacturer.
Last week, we reported on another set of dismal iPhone sales figures for Apple.
The statistics, which represented the sixth consecutive reduction in iPhone sales in China, showed that Apple had lost its fourth spot in the Chinese market.
It had been replaced in that position by local brand Xiaomi.
What we didn’t report in that article was that at the top of the list, by a comfortable margin, was Huawei.
Having conquered the Chinese market, Huawei has now set its sights on becoming the leading smartphone manufacturer globally.
According to Yahoo Finance, this will involve focusing efforts towards high-end consumers, without abandoning its traditional dominance in the middle of the market.
A particular focus will be made on the key USA market.
This strategy already appears to be working. Huawei is becoming an increasingly recognised brand outside its home market of China.
In the United Kingdom, for example, it is known not just for its devices, but also as a major investor in the British economy.
In June, the company restated its commitment to the UK in light of the recent, indecisive, general election.
Huawei has invested over £1 billion in research, development and marketing in Britain, and has become one of the leading Chinese investors in the country.
