In a thrilling display of endurance and skill, Soldier In Milan emerged victorious in the Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse, winning by an impressive 16 lengths. The race, held on Easter Monday, showcased the horse’s remarkable ability over a challenging distance of three miles and five furlongs.

Trained by Emmet Mullins and ridden by Donagh Meyler, Soldier In Milan was the pre-race favorite at 6-1 odds. This victory marks Mullins’ first win in the prestigious Irish Grand National, a significant milestone in his training career.

Following closely behind, Showurappreciation finished in second place, while The Enabler took third. Argento Boy rounded out the top four, showcasing the competitive nature of the race, which featured a total of 30 horses.

Initially leading the race, Monbeg Genius ultimately finished in fifth place, unable to maintain the pace set by Soldier In Milan. The race was a testament to the stamina and strategy required in such a demanding event.

Reflecting on the victory, Meyler expressed his relief and joy, stating, “I had a lot of ups and downs this season with horses not winning, getting beaten on horses and in stewards rooms but this makes up for it all.” His sentiments resonate with many in the racing community, who understand the highs and lows of the sport.

Mullins also shared his thoughts post-race, noting, “He was fit and well. Funnily enough, I know he went off favourite, but I told Paul ‘everything is good, he’s happy, he’s healthy, he’s fit but I’ve seen him in better order.'” His confidence in Soldier In Milan’s capabilities was clearly well-placed.

He added, “A well-backed favourite winning an Irish National is something special and he was greatly received here today. It’s an honour and a privilege.” This victory not only highlights the horse’s talent but also the dedication of the team behind him.

Historically, the Irish Grand National is known for its drama, stamina, and unpredictability, making this year’s race no exception. As the dust settles on this thrilling event, many are left wondering what lies ahead for Soldier In Milan.

Looking forward, Soldier In Milan may compete in the Aintree Grand National next year, a path that has been a successful route for many horses in the past. Details remain unconfirmed, but the anticipation is palpable among racing enthusiasts.
