Is dubai airport open: Limited Flight Operations Resuming Amid Tensions
On 28 February, Dubai’s primary airports, Dubai International (DXB) and Dubai World Central (DWC), halted all flight operations following Iranian missile and drone attacks that led to extensive closures of Gulf airspace and heightened regional tensions. The suspension was initially described as “until further notice.”
The airport remains closed today (Monday, March 2) with all flights cancelled. Nevertheless, in a significant update, Dubai Airports has revealed that a limited number of flights are set to resume later today.
Flight Operations Resuming
A representative from Dubai Airports stated: "Dubai Airports has confirmed that a limited restart of operations will commence later today, 2 March, allowing a select number of flights to operate from Dubai International (DXB) and Dubai World Central – Al Maktoum International (DWC). Passengers are urged not to head to DXB or DWC unless they have received direct communication from their airline with a confirmed departure time, as flight schedules may still change."

"Travelers are advised to reach out to their airline for the most current information regarding flight statuses and schedules. Dubai Airports is actively monitoring the situation in collaboration with the appropriate authorities, prioritizing the highest levels of operational safety, security, and the wellbeing of both passengers and staff. We thank our customers for their understanding and patience. Additional updates will be shared as they become available."
Impact of Regional Tensions
Flights have resumed from Abu Dhabi International Airport, with Etihad Airways, the airport’s primary carrier, restarting operations on select routes in recent hours.
Earlier today, a Lufthansa Airbus A380 took off from Abu Dhabi Airport. The website for Abu Dhabi International Airport advises that “passengers planning to travel today should confirm with their airline before arriving at the airport.” The facility states it is “collaborating closely with airlines and relevant authorities to handle the situation and reduce disruptions,” emphasizing that “the safety of [its] passengers is [its] top priority.”
Flightradar24 indicates that the departure boards at Abu Dhabi are still overwhelmed with cancellations. While some flights have successfully taken off, they are experiencing various delays.
