What You Need to Know About the Kendamil Recall: Safety Concerns for Parents
What Happened
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has announced a recall of Kendamil brand infant formula sold at Costco due to potential contamination with cereulide toxin. This toxin, which can cause food poisoning, is particularly concerning as it is heat-stable and can survive cooking temperatures.
Why It Matters
The affected product is the one-kilogram containers of Kendamil Infant Formula labeled “with whole milk.” The recall includes specific lot codes: 897274 and 888632, produced in May 2025. Although no illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall, the CFIA’s action follows a similar recall in another country, highlighting the ongoing safety concerns surrounding infant formulas.
What’s Next
Consumers are advised not to consume or distribute the recalled formula and to return it to the store for a refund. Health officials recommend that anyone who believes they or their child may have experienced symptoms after consuming the product should seek medical advice. The recall affects products sold both in-store and online across Canada.
