Kevin Nolan Sacked as Manager of Northampton Town

Kevin Nolan has been sacked as manager of Northampton Town following a disappointing run of form that saw the team secure only one win in their last 16 league matches. This decision comes after Nolan’s final game in charge, a 1-0 loss against AFC Wimbledon, which left the club struggling in 23rd place in League One, just three points from safety.

Under Nolan’s leadership, Northampton Town had a challenging season, managing to score only 31 goals in 36 matches, marking the second lowest total in the league. The team’s performance has been a stark contrast to the strong start they had earlier in the season, where they reached as high as 12th place. However, since Christmas, results have deteriorated significantly, prompting the club’s management to make a change.

Nolan took over as manager in December 2024, succeeding Jon Brady. He played a crucial role in keeping Northampton Town in League One last season, finishing in 19th place. Despite the initial promise, the recent performances have led to his dismissal, marking the 10th managerial change in League One this season.

Colin Calderwood has been appointed as the interim manager while the club searches for a new permanent replacement. Kelvin Thomas, the club’s chairman, expressed gratitude for Nolan’s efforts, stating, “We will always be grateful to Kevin for his hard work here, he helped keep us up last season and we enjoyed a strong first half of this season.” However, he also acknowledged the necessity of the decision, citing the results-based nature of football.

Thomas further elaborated, “We are sorry to have to take this decision, but unfortunately as we all know, football is very results based. But since Christmas the sequence of performances and results have led us to believe a change is in the best interests of all concerned.” Nolan leaves the club with thanks and best wishes for his future endeavors.

The club now faces the task of finding a new permanent manager who can steer the team away from the relegation zone and improve their fortunes in League One. As the search begins, the focus will be on securing a manager who can revitalize the squad and enhance their performance on the pitch.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding potential candidates for the managerial position, but the urgency for a change is palpable as Northampton Town aims to turn their season around.
