Leapmotor, a company founded in 2015, has been making strides in the electric vehicle (EV) market, particularly in China. With a significant 21-percent stake held by Stellantis, Leapmotor has been positioned to leverage international partnerships to expand its reach. Historically, Leapmotor had strong ties to Dahua Technology, which recently sold its direct stake in the company in 2023. This shift comes amid Dahua’s challenges, as it has faced blacklisting by several countries.
As Leapmotor continues to grow, it has announced that its new B10 Hybrid EV will go into production in Spain in the second half of 2026. Priced from €29,990 (approximately $34,800), the B10 is designed to appeal to families looking for an innovative and reliable SUV option. With a horsepower of 218, the B10 offers impressive performance, alongside a 50-mile all-electric range.
Initial reactions to the B10 have been positive, with industry experts noting its potential to disrupt the family SUV market. “The Leapmotor B10 Hybrid EV is making waves in the family SUV market with its innovative approach to electric driving,” commented an industry analyst. This sentiment is echoed by the growing demand for electric vehicles, as evidenced by Leapmotor’s T03 model, which saw a staggering 700 percent increase in sales year-on-year.
In a broader context, Canada is set to import 49,000 Chinese EVs this year, highlighting the increasing global interest in electric mobility. However, challenges remain, particularly regarding the B10’s pricing in Europe, as the impact of local production is still unclear. Details remain unconfirmed.
As Leapmotor prepares for its European debut, Stellantis has made a significant investment of €1.6 billion in the company in 2023, signaling confidence in Leapmotor’s future. The B10 Hybrid EV is expected to offer a competitive edge with its four-year/60,000-mile warranty and an eight-year/100,000-mile battery guarantee, appealing to consumers looking for reliability and longevity in their vehicles.
Observers are keenly watching how Leapmotor’s entry into the European market will unfold, especially with the backdrop of evolving regulations and consumer preferences for sustainable transportation. The company’s innovative approach and strategic partnerships could play a crucial role in shaping its success in this new landscape.
