Liverpool Schools Face Bomb Threat Investigation
“This communication is not believed to be credible, however this has led to understandable concern from some parents,” stated a representative from Sefton Council regarding the recent bomb threats targeting schools in Liverpool.
On March 9, 2026, Lipa School was closed after receiving a bomb threat, while Chesterfield High School implemented a temporary lockdown procedure following a threatening email. These incidents are part of a broader investigation by Merseyside Police into bomb threats sent to multiple unnamed schools in the area.
The threats, which included claims of planting bombs inside and outside several schools, have raised significant alarm among parents and guardians. In response to the situation, parents were advised not to collect their children from schools, although many chose to take their children home after the threats were reported.
Ch Insp Phil Thompson of Merseyside Police acknowledged the concerns of parents, stating, “We understand that parents and carers will be concerned and as a result we are liaising with all schools and providing advice and reassurance as enquiries continue.” He further noted that there was no requirement for schools to close based on the information received.
Despite the threats, Sefton Council confirmed that all schools in Sefton were functioning as normal. However, the situation remains tense as police continue to investigate the source of the threats. A 21-year-old man from Runcorn had previously been charged over similar hoax emails sent to schools in January, raising questions about the motivations behind these recent communications.
Merseyside Police have urged the public to refrain from sharing misinformation on social media regarding the threats, emphasizing the importance of accurate information during such critical times. The police are working diligently to ensure the safety of students and staff across Liverpool schools.
As the investigation unfolds, the community remains on high alert. The threats have not only disrupted the daily operations of schools but have also instilled a sense of fear among parents and students alike. Details remain unconfirmed about any further developments in the investigation.
