The closure is part of a series of traffic disruptions affecting the M6 on March 7, 2026. In addition to the northbound closure, the M6 is also closed between junction 21 and 21a near Warrington due to another police incident.
According to reports, the incident near Warrington is expected to clear by 11am. Meanwhile, the northbound closure is anticipated to be resolved by 8.30am.
Traffic has also been significantly affected on the southbound carriageway, where all traffic is being temporarily held due to an accident between junctions 13 and 12. This collision was reported at 6.35am.
“All traffic is being temporarily held due to an accident on the M6 southbound between junctions 13 and 12,” noted the traffic monitoring system Inrix.
The police spokesperson emphasized the necessity of the closure, stating, “We would encourage motorists to find alternative travel routes if they can do so.”
