Martin Kemp and Shirlie Reflect on Their Enduring Relationship
Martin Kemp, 64, known for his role in the band Spandau Ballet, and his wife Shirlie, 63, have shared insights into their long-lasting relationship, which began in the late 1980s. The couple married in 1988 and have two children, son Roman and daughter Harleymoon.
During a recent appearance on the Mid-point podcast, Martin and Shirlie discussed the challenges and triumphs of their relationship amid the pressures of fame. Shirlie remarked, “We survived it,” highlighting their resilience over the years.
Martin Kemp first laid eyes on Shirlie while watching Wham! perform on Top of The Pops, which led to a chance encounter where he gave her his number at a theatre show. Their connection has remained strong ever since.
In a lighter moment, Martin shared a recent experience where he was trapped in a lift for an hour before a DJ set in Falkirk. He later posted a picture with the fire service after being rescued, humorously stating, “Stuck in a lift for an hour!! Before tonight’s gig at City Falkirk… but I still had fun.”
Shirlie, who was a backing singer for Wham!, reflected on the differences in the music industry, saying, “The difference now is that being a popstar back in the day was all about myth and legend.” She added, “It was a very different time for us,” indicating the evolution of celebrity culture since their rise to fame.
As they navigate their lives in the public eye, Martin and Shirlie continue to support each other, drawing strength from their shared history and experiences. Their relationship serves as a testament to enduring love in the fast-paced world of entertainment.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding any upcoming projects or appearances for the couple, but their fans remain eager for updates on their journey together.
