Gareth Baty, a self-taught chef from Carlisle, Cumbria, has been crowned the winner of MasterChef: The Professionals 2026. This year’s competition saw Baty rise through the ranks, ultimately competing against 31 other talented chefs to claim the coveted title. The final aired on March 26, 2026, showcasing Baty’s impressive culinary skills and heartfelt dedication to his family.
Baty’s winning three-course meal featured a modern twist on a prawn cocktail, a chicken breast roulade, and a dessert inspired by the Brandy Alexander cocktail. Judges praised his menu, with Monica Galetti describing it as “faultless.” Baty’s culinary style is characterized as modern British, infused with global influences, reflecting his diverse culinary experiences.
At 39 years old, Baty’s journey into the culinary world began later in life, starting with supper clubs hosted in his east London flat. His career has taken him from a soul food restaurant in Harlem to Berner’s Tavern in London, where he honed his skills and developed his unique cooking style.
In a heartfelt moment during the final, Baty dedicated his menu to his family, emphasizing the importance of cooking as a way to connect and care for loved ones. “Cooking for people is one of the most generous things you can do, that you can make someone feel genuinely looked after through what you put on a plate,” he shared.
Judge Marcus Wareing commended Baty, stating, “Three very different stories for three or four very different people who mean something to you. You finished off with an absolute knockout three-course menu, congratulations, well done. Loved it.” Baty’s journey on the show has not only transformed his culinary skills but has also changed him as a person.
