Coastal Construction Faces Liquidation
“We did everything we possibly could to keep it going, but we got to the point where we couldn’t hold off anymore,” said Kevin Waddison, co-owner of Coastal Construction, reflecting on the company’s recent decision to enter liquidation. The construction firm, which has been a significant player in the local industry, now owes creditors a staggering £1.06 million, with Norwich City among the 26 creditors affected by this financial collapse.
Established by Peter Waddison, who passed away in 2023, Coastal Construction has been the official building contractor for Norwich City. The company had been involved in various projects, including providing a hospitality box at Carrow Road, which showcased its close ties with the football club. However, the financial strain became insurmountable, leading to the cessation of trading in October 2025.
Kevin Waddison, alongside his brother Gary, had previously injected around £300,000 of their own money into the company in an attempt to stabilize operations. Despite these efforts, the mounting pressure from creditors became too much to bear. “It shows the sort of pressure we were getting from some of our creditors,” Kevin noted, emphasizing the challenges they faced in maintaining the business.
The situation was exacerbated by delays caused by nutrient neutrality planning rules, which significantly impacted Coastal Construction’s housing projects. These regulatory hurdles contributed to the financial difficulties that ultimately led to the company’s liquidation.
Norwich City, having filed a petition to wind up Coastal Construction, now finds itself in a precarious position as it awaits the outcome of the liquidation process. The club’s involvement as a creditor highlights the interconnectedness of local businesses and sports organizations, and the potential ripple effects of such financial troubles.
As the liquidation unfolds, the Waddison brothers face the reality of their financial commitments, with £282,000 of their own money owed. “Unfortunately we could not trade any longer,” Kevin stated, underscoring the finality of their situation.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding the next steps for both Coastal Construction and Norwich City as they navigate this challenging period. The local community and stakeholders will be watching closely to see how this situation develops and what it means for future projects and partnerships.
