Northern line: Severe Delays on the Due to Signal Failure and Maintenance
Severe Delays Impacting Passengers
“Passengers should anticipate longer journey times and delays at interchange stations,” a Transport for London (TfL) spokesperson stated on March 12, 2026, as severe delays on the northern line were reported.
The delays stem from a combination of planned maintenance and a signal failure at East Finchley. This incident has compounded issues already affecting the Bank branch of the northern line, which has been experiencing early closures from Camden Town to Kennington since January 12, 2026.
On the morning of March 12, the signal failure at East Finchley led to significant disruptions, particularly between High Barnet and Battersea Power Station, as well as between Mill Hill East and Kennington via Charing Cross.
TfL engineers are currently addressing the signal failure, and passengers are advised to check before they travel and allow extra time for their journeys. In light of the ongoing issues, London Buses are accepting Tube tickets while repairs are underway.
Normal services have resumed on the Bakerloo, Jubilee, and Piccadilly lines, albeit with minor delays. However, the situation on the northern line remains fluid as engineers work to resolve the signal failure.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding the duration of the delays, but TfL recommends using its journey planner to check updated routes.
The northern line has been undergoing essential track replacement work since January, which has contributed to the current service disruptions. Passengers are encouraged to stay informed about the latest travel updates as the situation evolves.
