Park Run at Vicar Water Country Park: A New Milestone

park run — GB news

Before the recent park run at Vicar Water Country Park, expectations were high for a vibrant community gathering, especially as the event celebrated its 60th occurrence. Participants anticipated a challenging yet enjoyable course, which included the notorious hill known as The Clippomanjaro Climb. The atmosphere was set for a day filled with camaraderie and personal achievements.

On March 21, 2026, the event unfolded with a decisive moment that would mark a new chapter for the local running community. A total of 97 finishers crossed the finish line, supported by 22 enthusiastic volunteers who ensured the event ran smoothly. This turnout was a testament to the growing popularity of park runs in the area.

The impact of this event was felt by all involved. Among the 97 finishers, 12 achieved personal bests, a significant accomplishment that highlighted the competitive spirit of the participants. The first finisher completed the course in an impressive 20 minutes and 18 seconds, while the Tail Walker finished in 1 hour, 11 minutes, and 14 seconds, showcasing the range of abilities present.

Paul Atkinson, a participant, remarked on the course’s unique features, stating, “I’m sure this hill must get mentioned in every run report – but is so spectacular it deserves another mention!” His enthusiasm reflected the shared experience of many runners who tackled the mixed terrain, which was mostly trail and included two laps around the park.

Despite the overcast and dull weather, the event maintained its charm. Atkinson noted, “The Marshal at the top extolled the virtues of the views from her location which are lovely in clear weather – today it was overcast, cloudy and dull!” This sentiment resonated with many who braved the elements to participate.

The park run not only fostered a sense of community but also encouraged newcomers, with 52 first-timers taking part. This influx of new faces is a promising sign for the future of park runs in the region, suggesting that the event is becoming a staple in the local fitness culture.

As the event concluded, participants and volunteers alike gathered at the café nearby, sharing stories and celebrating their achievements. The combination of a challenging course, supportive volunteers, and a friendly atmosphere made for a memorable day.

Looking ahead, the park run at Vicar Water Country Park is poised to continue growing, with more individuals discovering the joy of running in a supportive community. The blend of fitness, fun, and friendship is what makes these events special, and as Atkinson aptly put it, “Mixed terrain but mostly trail; 2 laps; café; toilets; cheap parking adjacent to the Finish Line; gently undulating with one massive hill!; spectacular; fun and friendly. Would highly recommend.”

As the community reflects on this successful event, it is clear that the park run phenomenon is more than just a race; it is a celebration of health, community spirit, and personal achievement.
