In a significant development for Portugal FC, the FC Porto Foundation has been awarded the Social Responsibility Award from Liga Portugal. The ceremony took place recently, and the trophy was joyfully taken home by Luísa, a young supporter who attended the event.
This recognition marks the third award presented to FC Porto by Liga Portugal, with this being the second time they have received the Social Responsibility accolade. Paulo de Mariz Rozeira, the Executive Director of Liga Portugal, presented the award, underscoring the club’s commitment to community initiatives.
Tiago Gouveia, a representative from FC Porto, expressed the importance of such initiatives, stating, “Our recognition is seeing Luísa’s joy, the joy of the other children and of our supporters when we carry out this kind of initiative.” This sentiment reflects the club’s long-standing dedication to social responsibility, which has been a hallmark of their identity.
Meanwhile, as the FC Porto Foundation celebrates this achievement, the US Men’s National Team (USMNT) is preparing for an upcoming friendly match against Portugal, scheduled for March 31, 2026, at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. This match is part of the March international window for the USMNT, who are looking to bounce back after a disappointing 5-2 loss to Belgium in their previous outing.
Chris Richards, a key player for the USMNT, will not be participating in the match due to a knee issue, adding an element of uncertainty to the team’s lineup. Kick-off for the match against Portugal is set for 7:00 PM, which translates to 4:00 PM Pacific time.
As the USMNT gears up to face Portugal, they will don their Stars kits, aiming to play like stars and regain confidence ahead of the summer’s World Cup. The excitement surrounding this friendly match adds another layer to the ongoing narrative of Portugal FC and its impact on the global football stage.
First of all, I want to thank FC Porto for this very beautiful gesture of giving her the award, remarked José Santiago, highlighting the emotional connection between the club and its supporters.
As both FC Porto and the USMNT prepare for their respective challenges, the intertwining stories of social responsibility and competitive spirit continue to unfold, showcasing the profound impact of football beyond the pitch.
