Prince Harry designed Meghan’s engagement ring

Yesterday, hearts across the globe were breaking as His Royal Highness Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle announced their long-anticipated engagement. The news also sparked the nation’s curiosity; who will design the wedding dress, what does the engagement ring look like and most importantly, who will hold Cressida Bonas’ hand as she sobs into a handkerchief?

We can’t answer for Bonas but we do have the info on the ring. It was specially designed by Prince Harry himself and made by Cleave and Company, Court Jewellers and Medallists to Her Majesty The Queen. The band is gold, with a centre diamond from Botswana, a country which holds a special place in the Prince’s heart; he often visited as a child and the happy couple have also spent significant time there during the the course of their relationship.

On either side of the gem are also two diamonds from the personal collection of Prince Harry’s late mother, Diana The Princess of Wales.

Speaking about his mother in an interview with BBC News, Prince Harry said: “They’d be thick as thieves. Without question, I think she would be over the moon, jumping up and down so excited for me but then as I said, would probably have been best friends with Meghan. It’s days like today when I really miss having her around and miss being able to share the happy news but with the ring and with everything else that’s going I’m sure she’s with us, jumping up and down somewhere else.”
