Selfridges: Your new local corner shop
Selfridges has opened its very own corner shop, but we bet your local ‘offie’ doesn’t stock treasures like these.
Launched on Wednesday 29 November, The Corner Shop was inspired by two influencers: the British off license and Wunderkammer, the tradition of exhibiting curious objects. According to a press release issued by the luxury department store, the shop will feature 450 products from 100 brands, and customers can expect the “most creative conveniences and some irresistible non-essentials; unexpected luxuries big and small, priced from £2 – £7,000.”
So what exactly can be found in the room of wonder? A range of exclusive products have been created for the occasion including a Selfridges Monopoly set, leather bags and small accessories by designers including Chloe, Burberry and Mulberry, intarsia knitwear by Thom Browne and acrylic clutches by Edie Parker. But you’ll also be able to pick up food items (most likely not your regular milk and eggs), toiletries and stationery.
Specially designed, quirky British tea towels with prints by well-known fashion designers such as Anya Hindmarch and Erdem Moral?o?lu will also be on offer. Bear in mind, the latter is rumoured to be design Meghan Markle’s wedding dress; so your tea towel may potentially become a very valuable item!
Located on the ground floor of the luxury department store, The Corner Shop is part of the second phase unveiling of the Accessories Hall and will double up as a dynamic space designed to accommodate temporary themed collaboration residencies starting from early 2018.
