Sophie Raworth Completes Challenging 55km Mountain Race

Sophie Raworth has made headlines by completing a 55km mountain race in an impressive time of 10 hours and 41 minutes. This achievement not only highlights her endurance but also marks a significant milestone in her running journey, especially considering her recovery from a broken ankle in 2024.

The race, which included a daunting 2,450 metres of climbing, took place on a day when temperatures reached 23 degrees Celsius. Raworth’s performance is a testament to her dedication and resilience, particularly after her challenging experiences in the past. “It turned out that I wasn’t too old,” she remarked, reflecting on her journey as an athlete.

In addition to her recent mountain race, Raworth has also completed a 5km Parkrun in a time of 22:14, her fastest in two years. This comes after a significant recovery period, showcasing her ability to bounce back from injury. Her running journey began in her late 30s, and since then, she has accomplished remarkable feats, including completing all seven World Marathon Majors and the grueling 150-mile Marathon des Sables in the Sahara Desert in 2018.

Raworth’s choice of footwear, the New Balance FuelCell Rebel v5 running shoes, is noted for its lightweight, cushioned sole and ventilated upper, which likely contributed to her performance in the mountain race. Her commitment to running has not only improved her physical strength but also her mental fortitude. “It’s not just the physical strength I’ve gained, it’s the mental fortitude, too,” she stated, emphasizing the holistic benefits of her running journey.

In 2025, Raworth ran a total of 1,311.7 miles, further solidifying her status as a dedicated athlete. Her journey has inspired many, especially as she prepares for the upcoming London Marathon on April 26, 2026. Observers are keen to see how she will balance her training for ultra distances with her speed work for shorter races.

Despite her achievements, details remain unconfirmed regarding her preparation and oversight after the 2024 ankle break. Furthermore, specifics about her training load and pacing strategies used to transition between ultra distances and fast 5km efforts are not disclosed. The medical clearance processes permitting her return to varied stressors also remain unclear.

As Sophie Raworth continues to push her limits, her story serves as an inspiration to many, proving that age is just a number when it comes to pursuing athletic goals. With her sights set on the London Marathon, the running community eagerly awaits her next chapter.
