Wales Gears Up for St Davids Day Celebrations with £1 Million Fund
What Happened
The Welsh Government has announced the list of events supported by the St David’s Day Fund 2026, which allocates £1 million to help community, regional, and national groups celebrate Dydd Gwyl Dewi, or St David’s Day, on March 1. A total of 92 events are scheduled to take place across Wales from February 16 to March 6, 2026. Grants will range from £500 for small community initiatives to £40,000 for larger nationwide events.
Why It Matters
This funding is significant as it aims to enhance community engagement and promote Welsh culture both locally and internationally. The return of the social media campaign ‘Random Acts of Welshness’ encourages individuals to participate in small acts of Welsh culture, such as cooking traditional dishes or supporting local businesses. Additionally, the celebrations will coincide with Wales Week in London, marking its 10th anniversary, which aims to showcase Welsh achievements and strengthen connections between Wales and the UK’s capital.
What’s Next
As the celebrations approach, various organizations, including Meet In Wales, are planning initiatives to highlight Wales’s appeal as a business events destination. The week surrounding St David’s Day will feature digital content sharing good wishes in the Welsh language and events aimed at promoting Welsh culture and business. Community-focused activities will also take place, including parades, food festivals, and cultural performances, particularly in Carmarthenshire, where local councils are organizing themed events and workshops.
