Steam Machine Price Remains Unconfirmed
Valve has not yet announced a price for the highly anticipated Steam Machine, which is expected to be priced closer to entry-level PCs. Industry insiders suggest that the Steam Machine will likely cost more than the $499 PlayStation 5, reflecting the rising costs of critical components.
As prices for memory and other essential hardware continue to climb, Valve is rethinking its pricing strategy. The company is facing challenges due to the limited availability and growing prices of these critical components, which could further increase the Steam Machine’s cost.
In a statement, Pierre-Loup Griffais noted, “Steam Machine’s pricing is comparable to a PC with similar specs.” This suggests that consumers can expect a price point that aligns with mid-range gaming PCs, although specific figures remain elusive.
The Steam Machine is set to launch in 2026, with Valve aiming to ship the product in the first half of that year. This marks Valve’s second attempt at establishing a foothold in the living room gaming market, following a surprise hardware announcement in November 2025.
While the Steam Deck, another of Valve’s gaming devices, is priced at $399, the Steam Machine’s pricing structure is expected to differ significantly due to its hybrid nature and the current market conditions.
For context, the original price of the Framework Desktop was $1,099, which has now risen to $1,139 due to increasing RAM costs. In contrast, a version with 128GB of RAM is priced at $2,459, illustrating the impact of component pricing on overall hardware costs.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding the exact pricing of the Steam Machine, and observers are keenly awaiting further announcements from Valve as the launch date approaches.
