The stakes are high for Nottingham Forest as they prepare for a series of crucial fixtures in the Premier League. With upcoming matches against Aston Villa on April 12, 2026, and Burnley on April 19, 2026, the team is under pressure to improve their performance after a disappointing start to the season.

Nottingham Forest finished seventh last season, accumulating 65 points, marking their highest position since 1995. However, this season has seen a stark contrast, with the team struggling to find the back of the net. They have scored just 28 goals in 30 matches, blanking in 14 of those games, which is the highest in the Premier League.

Key player Chris Wood has been sidelined since mid-October due to injury, leaving a significant gap in the team’s offensive capabilities. Meanwhile, Morgan Gibbs-White has managed to score 8 goals this season, but the overall shot conversion rate stands at a mere 4.5%, the lowest in the league during their last seven matches.

The upcoming fixtures present an opportunity for Nottingham Forest to turn their fortunes around. The match against Sunderland on April 24, 2026, will be another critical test as they seek to regain their scoring touch and climb the league table.

As the team prepares for these matches, the uncertainty surrounding their form looms large. Fans are hopeful for a turnaround, but the challenges remain evident. Details remain unconfirmed regarding any potential changes in the squad or tactics that could influence their performance in the coming weeks.

Key moments

In a dramatic turn of events on March 22, 2026, Sunderland, Burnley, and Leeds United have secured their places in the Premier League for the 2025-26 season. This significant development comes as the league approaches its final stretch, with teams battling for glory and survival.

As the standings unfold, the immediate circumstances reveal that Southampton, Leicester City, and Ipswich Town have faced relegation from the Premier League. This marks a challenging chapter for these clubs, particularly for Leicester City, who have experienced a notable decline after previous seasons of competitiveness.

The backdrop of this season has been characterized by a genuine title race, with teams vying not only for the championship but also for coveted spots in the Champions League and European competitions. The stakes have never been higher, and the pressure is palpable as clubs navigate the complexities of the league.

In a related sporting event, Leicester Tigers triumphed over Bristol Bears with a score of 33-19, further solidifying their position in the Gallagher Premiership table. Leicester’s victory, which included a remarkable eight points scored in the dying stages of the match, propelled them to third place, while Bristol Bears slipped to fifth.

Notably, Billy Searle was a standout performer for Leicester, contributing 13 points to the match, while Fitz Harding scored two tries for Bristol Bears, showcasing the fierce competition within the league.

Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur continues to struggle, having lost more home games than Arsenal, Manchester City, and Liverpool combined since moving to their new stadium in 2019. This season has seen Spurs win just one of their last 15 outings at home, a stark contrast to their previous success where they won 13 of their 19 league outings at home during the 2021-22 season.

As the season progresses, reactions from fans and officials are mixed. Supporters of Sunderland, Burnley, and Leeds United are celebrating their promotion, while those of Southampton and Leicester City are grappling with the reality of relegation. The emotional rollercoaster of the Premier League never fails to deliver, leaving fans eagerly anticipating the next round of matches.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding the future strategies of the relegated teams, but one thing is clear: the 2025-26 Premier League season has been a testament to the unpredictable nature of football, where triumph and despair coexist in a thrilling spectacle.

The numbers

In a tense and historic Tyne-Wear derby on March 22, 2026, the match between Newcastle United and Sunderland was momentarily halted due to a report of racism directed at Lutsharel Geertruida. The pause lasted for three minutes, in accordance with the Premier League’s anti-discrimination protocol, highlighting the ongoing battle against racism in football.

The incident unfolded at St James’ Park, the venue for this fierce rivalry, which had not hosted a Tyne-Wear derby since 2016. Newcastle United, in a statement following the event, emphasized their zero-tolerance policy towards discrimination, asserting, “We do not tolerate discrimination of any form.” This strong stance reflects a growing awareness and commitment to addressing racism within the sport.

Sunderland’s head coach, Regis Le Bris, also voiced his support for Geertruida, stating, “It is important to report and to manage the situation properly.” His comments underscore the collective responsibility of clubs and coaches to foster an environment where players feel safe and respected. Le Bris further reassured fans, saying, “He looks OK,” referring to Geertruida’s well-being after the incident.

The Premier League has confirmed that the incident will be thoroughly investigated, reiterating that “Racism has no place in our game, or anywhere in society.” This commitment to accountability is crucial as football continues to grapple with the pervasive issue of racism, which has marred the sport for decades.

Despite the disruption, the match concluded with Sunderland securing a 2-1 victory over Newcastle, extending their unbeaten streak against their rivals to 11 matches. This result adds another chapter to the storied history of the Tyne-Wear derby, which spans 128 years and remains one of the most passionate rivalries in English football.

As the dust settles on this significant event, observers are left to ponder the implications of the incident. While the immediate response from both clubs and the league has been commendable, the effectiveness of the measures taken to combat racism in football will be closely scrutinized in the coming weeks.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding the specific actions that will be taken following the investigation. However, the hope is that this incident will serve as a catalyst for further change, ensuring that players like Lutsharel Geertruida can compete without fear of discrimination in the future.

The Tyne-Wear derby has long been a battleground of fierce rivalry, and the latest clash between Sunderland and Newcastle United at St James’ Park on March 22, 2026, was no exception. Sunderland entered the match with a remarkable record, having won seven of the last eight encounters against their local rivals. This backdrop set the stage for a thrilling encounter.

Newcastle United started strong, with Anthony Gordon finding the net just nine minutes into the match, giving the home crowd a glimmer of hope. However, Sunderland’s resilience shone through as they equalized in the 57th minute through Chemsdine Talbi, reigniting their chances in the match.

As the clock ticked down, the tension mounted. In a dramatic twist, Brian Brobbey scored a stunning winner for Sunderland in the 90th minute, sealing a 2-1 victory. This goal not only secured the three points but also marked Sunderland’s first league double over Newcastle since the 2014-15 season.

The match was not without its controversies, as it was paused in the 52nd minute due to reports of discriminatory abuse directed at Lutsharel Geertruida. Such incidents cast a shadow over the passionate atmosphere of the derby, prompting calls for greater accountability in football.

After the match, Sunderland’s manager, Régis Le Bris, expressed his pride in the team’s performance, stating, “Today was very important. It’s a big achievement. But it’s not the end of our story.” His words reflect a determination to build on this success.

In contrast, Newcastle’s manager, Eddie Howe, faced the media with a sense of disappointment. He described the defensive lapses that led to the defeat as “unforgivable,” highlighting the need for improvement following their recent 7-2 loss to Barcelona in the Champions League just four days prior.

The defeat means Newcastle has now gone 11 league derbies without a win against Sunderland, a statistic that weighs heavily on the club and its supporters. Howe remarked, “This is where we want to be,” indicating a desire to reclaim their position in the rivalry.

As the dust settles on this latest encounter, observers are left to ponder the implications for both teams. Sunderland’s resurgence in the derby could signal a turning point, while Newcastle must regroup and address their defensive shortcomings if they hope to reverse their fortunes in future matches.

With the Premier League season continuing, both teams will be eager to channel the emotions from this derby into their upcoming fixtures. The rivalry remains alive, and fans on both sides will be watching closely as the story unfolds.

Manchester United has a long and celebrated history of developing young players, and the latest addition to this legacy is 15-year-old JJ Gabriel. Having turned 15 just last October, Gabriel is currently in Year 10 at school, yet he has already made a significant impact on the pitch. This season, he has scored an impressive 18 goals in 19 appearances in the U18 Premier League, showcasing his talent and potential.

In a recent FA Youth Cup match against Sunderland, Gabriel played a pivotal role in Manchester United’s thrilling 3-2 victory. He not only scored two goals in the tournament this season but also provided an assist for Junior Brown’s winning goal, further solidifying his reputation as a rising star. The match drew an enthusiastic crowd of 2,516 fans at Old Trafford, eager to witness the next generation of football talent.

Despite his remarkable performances, Gabriel faces a hurdle: he is ineligible to play in the Premier League this season due to age regulations. Premier League rules stipulate that players must be 15 by August 31 to participate, and while Gabriel’s skills are undeniable, he must wait until next August to step onto the Premier League stage.

Observers have noted the buzz surrounding Gabriel, with one commentator stating, “When a teenager in Year 10 at school is generating that kind of buzz at one of the world’s most famous football clubs, something genuinely special is happening.” His smaller stature has not hindered his ability to shine on the field, as he continues to impress fans and scouts alike.

As Manchester United prepares for their next FA Youth Cup fixture against Crystal Palace in the semi-final, all eyes will be on Gabriel. His performances have drawn comparisons to other young talents in the league, with some recalling the recent debut of Arsenal’s wonderkid Max Dowman, which has sparked conversations about the potential for young players in the Premier League.

Gabriel’s journey is just beginning, and while he may be sidelined from the Premier League this season, his future looks bright. “That single technicality is the only thing standing between him and a broader stage — not his ability, not his maturity on the ball, not his football intelligence,” remarked an analyst. As he continues to develop, many are eager to see how he will evolve as a player.

For now, Gabriel will focus on honing his skills and preparing for the challenges ahead. The anticipation surrounding his future is palpable, and fans are hopeful that they will soon see him grace the Premier League pitch. Details remain unconfirmed about his immediate future, but one thing is certain: JJ Gabriel is a name to watch in the world of football.

JJ Gabriel is generating significant buzz at Manchester United despite being in Year 10 and not eligible to play in the Premier League this season. At just 15 years old, Gabriel has already made a name for himself on the pitch, scoring an impressive 18 goals in just 19 appearances in the U18 Premier League this season.

Gabriel’s ability to shine in high-pressure situations has not gone unnoticed. Coaches and fans alike are captivated by his skill and determination, with Mick Brown, a youth coach, noting, “Gabriel is impressing coaches in training, and it is not hard to see why.” His performances have sparked discussions about the potential for young players to break into the first team, especially following the recent debut of Arsenal’s wonderkid Max Dowman.

Despite his remarkable achievements, Gabriel remains ineligible for Premier League action this season due to age regulations. This has not deterred his growing fan base, as evidenced by the selfie queue that formed after the match, not for the goal scorers, but for the young talent who still has a year to wait before he can compete at the highest level.

As Gabriel continues to develop, observers are optimistic about his future. The next challenge for him and his teammates lies ahead, with a semi-final match against Crystal Palace in the FA Youth Cup scheduled at Old Trafford. Fans are eager to see if Gabriel can maintain his scoring streak and lead his team to victory.

With his current form, JJ Gabriel is not just a player to watch; he is a beacon of hope for Manchester United’s future. His journey is just beginning, and many are excited to see where it leads. Gabriel is expected to be eligible for Premier League action next season, and if his current trajectory continues, he could soon be a household name in football.

The overwhelming demand led to frustration among fans, with one expressing, “ermmm why am i 65k for the big weekend sunday tickets.”

On the preceding Saturday, around 17,000 people were already in line for tickets, indicating the high level of anticipation surrounding the event. The situation underscored the challenges consumers face in securing tickets through Ticketmaster, a company that controls a significant portion of the ticketing market.

In the backdrop of this event, Ticketmaster is also navigating ongoing legal challenges. The New Hampshire Department of Justice is part of an antitrust lawsuit against the company, despite a recent federal settlement that was reached with Live Nation/Ticketmaster.

This settlement included a 15% cap on service fees at Live Nation-owned amphitheaters and allowed some competitors to sell tickets, alongside an anti-retaliation provision. However, critics argue that the settlement does not adequately address Ticketmaster’s monopoly power. Senator Amy Klobuchar remarked, “Today’s settlement does little to lower costs or preserve the independent venues and protect fans. They should be broken up.”

Michael Garrity from the New Hampshire Department of Justice emphasized the importance of this litigation, stating, “The New Hampshire Department of Justice joined this effort to protect consumers and ensure a fair marketplace for artists, venues and fans.”

Despite the settlement, the New Hampshire Department of Justice continues to pursue litigation to ensure competition in the live entertainment marketplace, reflecting ongoing concerns about Ticketmaster’s dominance.

As the ticketing landscape evolves, the situation remains fluid. The potential restitution amount that Live Nation might pay to states could reach $300 million, further complicating the company’s position.

As fans continue to grapple with the challenges of securing tickets, the implications of these developments are significant for both consumers and the live entertainment industry as a whole. Details remain unconfirmed regarding the long-term effects of the ongoing legal battles and market dynamics.

In his statement, Colback expressed, “Today, I’m announcing my retirement from professional football. I feel privileged to have the honour of playing nearly 500 matches at the top level, representing some of the biggest clubs in the country in Newcastle, Sunderland, Nottingham Forest, Ipswich and Queen’s Park Rangers.” His career included significant stints at Sunderland, Newcastle United, and Nottingham Forest.

During his tenure at Sunderland, he was part of the squad that reached the Carabao Cup final in the 2013-14 season. Later, he contributed to Newcastle United’s Championship title win in the 2016-17 season.

Colback joined Nottingham Forest initially on loan before making a permanent move in 2020. Most recently, he played for Queens Park Rangers, where he made 53 appearances after joining the club in the summer of 2023.

Reflecting on his journey, Colback stated, “There have been highs, lows, promotions, tough defeats, and moments I’ll never forget. I would like to thank all of my coaches, teammates and supporters who helped me to achieve my dream. Looking forward to what the next chapter holds.”

Colback began his career with Sunderland, where he had a pair of loan spells with Ipswich Town before completing a free transfer to Newcastle United in 2014.
