Stabbing Incident at Thorpe St Andrew School

A teenage girl was stabbed at Thorpe St Andrew School in Norwich at approximately 10:20am on March 11, 2026. The victim was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, while a 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Following the stabbing, the school went into lockdown, which lasted for over an hour. Parents were informed and rushed to the school during this period. Police installed a cordon around the area where the suspect was arrested to ensure safety and facilitate their investigation.

Owen Jenkins, of the Broad Horizons Education Trust, stated, “This has obviously been a distressing experience for our whole community.” Local officials expressed their concern, with Norfolk County Councillor Ian Mackie saying, “Our first thoughts are very much with the girl and her family, the whole community is shocked and will want to join me in sending our best wishes for her recovery from this traumatic experience.”

The school serves students aged 11 to 18 and has a total of 1,834 pupils. It was recently rated Good in its 2025 Ofsted inspection. However, the school had also been the focus of a police investigation into alleged antisemitic abuse prior to this incident.

Students expressed their fear following the event, with one stating, “I am very scared,” and another adding, “I just want to go home.” The atmosphere at the school has been tense as the community grapples with the implications of the stabbing.

Authorities have indicated that the stabbing is not believed to be linked to the recent antisemitic hate crime at the school. However, details remain unconfirmed regarding the exact nature of the relationship between the victim and the suspect.

The Broad Horizons Education Trust has promised to provide additional resources and counseling for affected students as they navigate the aftermath of this incident. The community is left in shock, hoping for a swift recovery for the victim and clarity on the circumstances surrounding the event.
