Travel Warnings UK: Severe Weather Hits Dubai International Airport
“Given the current weather conditions across the country, thunder is expected,” stated the Dubai Police HQ, as they issued a travel warning to UK passengers departing from Dubai International Airport. The warning comes amid forecasts of torrential rain, thunderstorms, and hail that are expected to disrupt travel plans.
Emirates has urged passengers to arrive at least two hours before their scheduled departure due to the severe weather conditions. The heavy downpours and lightning strikes are anticipated to significantly hamper road visibility and driving standards, raising concerns for travelers heading to the airport.
This warning follows a particularly wet January in the UK, which saw a 17% increase in rainfall compared to the long-term average. Northern Ireland experienced its wettest January in 149 years, while England recorded its eighth wettest winter season in February 2026.
February was marked as one of the warmest and dullest months on record for the UK, yet the rainfall remained 13% above average for the winter season. Such extreme weather patterns have raised alarm among meteorologists and travel authorities alike.
Ian Jeffrey, Director at CMAC, expressed concern over the situation, saying, “It’s too easy to tell people not to travel.” His statement reflects the complexities of balancing safety with the need for travel, especially during such unpredictable weather conditions.
As Dubai Police continue to monitor the situation, they have cautioned that thunderstorms are anticipated nationwide, which may further complicate travel for those in the region.
For travelers planning to depart from Dubai, it is crucial to stay updated on flight statuses and adhere to safety recommendations. The situation remains fluid, and passengers are advised to prepare for potential delays and disruptions.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding the full extent of the weather’s impact on flight schedules, but travelers are encouraged to remain vigilant and informed.
