UK’s top diplomat says China is set to win the world tech race

“China is a rival whose growth and whose incredible developing power can be used to our advantage” says UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson.

Speaking at a private event at the Institute of Directors in London for the campaign group Conservative Way Forward Mr Johnson was secretly recorded giving his personal views on a range of subjects.

Buzzfeed News obtained a leaked recording from the event, they reported that said that he’d spoken with Mike Pompeo, the US secretary of state, earlier that day about the situation in North Korea. Mr Johnson said that the US wants to “use our nuclear expertise to dismantle Kim Jong-Un’s nuclear missile.”

“They’ve got 5G,” Johnson said of China. “They’ve found out a way. Everybody’s going to be getting stuff on their gizmos through the Chinese system and not the American system. So, watch out for that one.”

The Foreign Secretary said that the UK needs to engage with China diplomatically, “treat China as our friend and our partner, but also recognise that they are our commercial rivals.”

Meanwhile, Mr Johnson gave his view on the US President, saying that he was increasingly admiring of Donald Trump, and that he has become more and more convinced that there is method in his madness.
