Who Will Bayer Leverkusen Face in the Champions League Round of 16?
The market is talking about Bayer Leverkusen’s potential opponents in the Champions League round of 16
Following Bayer Leverkusen’s advancement to the Champions League round of 16, director of sport Simon Rolfes shared his preference for the next round’s opponent. Leverkusen secured their spot after a 0-0 draw against Olympiacos, having previously won the first leg 2-0.
Rolfes expressed a desire to face Arsenal, stating, “It would be great if we were drawn against Arsenal. Then we could finally say goodbye to Kai Havertz at our stadium – almost six years after his departure.” He mentioned that he had recently been in contact with Havertz, who is eager to return to the BayArena.
Head coach Kasper Hjulmand echoed Rolfes’ sentiments, indicating a preference for Arsenal over Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich. He noted, “They are two of the best teams in Europe, they play at the same level. That’s great. We want to play against the best. We’re looking forward to this big challenge.” Hjulmand highlighted the potential for facing Bayern four times in quick succession if drawn against them, which could include a Bundesliga match shortly after the Champions League tie.
Leverkusen currently sits 6th in the Bundesliga, having shown significant improvement in recent matches, although they faced a setback with a 1-0 loss to Union Berlin prior to their match against Olympiacos. As they prepare for the next round, the team is focused on maintaining their positive trajectory.
No official confirmation yet on the draw, but anticipation builds as fans and analysts speculate on the upcoming challenges.
