Wrexham Owners Achieve Remarkable Success

Since Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney acquired Wrexham in February 2021, the club has celebrated three consecutive promotions, now competing in the Championship where they currently sit sixth in the table.

Reynolds, whose net worth is estimated between $400 million and $448 million, has seen a significant portion of his wealth stem from his investment in Mint Mobile, valued at over £200 million. The duo’s commitment to the club was further solidified when they sold part of Wrexham to Apollo Sports Capital, valuing the club at £350 million.

Wrexham’s aspirations extend beyond league success; they aim to reach the FA Cup quarter-finals for the first time since 1997. This ambition highlights the club’s resurgence under the new ownership, as their last appearance in the quarter-finals was over two decades ago.

James McClean, a player associated with the club, remarked, “It’s genuinely been the most incredible and enjoyable couple of years I have had,” reflecting the positive atmosphere surrounding Wrexham since the takeover.

Ryan Reynolds has humorously acknowledged the comparisons drawn between Wrexham and other clubs, stating, “We get it, there are similarities. We like parades, we like fans, we like costumed characters and merch. I could go on.” This light-hearted approach has endeared the owners to fans.

Rob McElhenney also addressed the reactions from rival clubs, saying, “Two things. One, to all the opposing clubs that are upset we didn’t choose them and went with Wrexham instead, I am sorry.” This statement underscores the unique position Wrexham holds in the football landscape.

The nickname ‘Disney FC’ has emerged among rival fans, a testament to the club’s newfound visibility and the owners’ celebrity status. This moniker reflects both admiration and rivalry, as Wrexham continues to grow in popularity.

As Wrexham progresses in the Championship and pursues FA Cup glory, observers remain eager to see how the club will navigate these challenges. Details remain unconfirmed regarding their long-term plans and potential further investments.
