Alfie Barbeary’s Career Transition

In a significant development for the rugby community, Alfie Barbeary has signed with Saracens for the 2026-27 season. This announcement comes as Barbeary prepares to conclude his time with Bath Rugby, where he has made a notable impact over the past few years.

Barbeary, who is 25 years old and hails from Banbury, joined Bath Rugby in 2022 after the administration of Wasps. Since then, he has played 60 games for Bath, scoring 17 tries and contributing to the team’s success, including a treble-winning campaign in the 2024/25 season.

As he transitions to Saracens, Barbeary expressed his enthusiasm for the move, stating, “Saracens have always been a top club and I am looking forward to a new challenge in North London.” His decision to join Saracens reflects his ambition to further develop his skills and compete at the highest level.

Mark McCall, the director of rugby at Saracens, welcomed Barbeary to the club, highlighting his talent and potential. McCall remarked, “Alfie is a highly talented young player who we are delighted to welcome to the club. His attributes and character will complement and add value to the group, and we are looking forward to him realizing his potential in the years ahead.”

Barbeary’s performance has not gone unnoticed, as he has been recognized as one of the premier ball carriers in Europe and has even been shortlisted for the EPCR Player of the Year award. His previous experience with England A also adds to his credentials as he prepares for this new chapter.

Currently, Barbeary will continue to play for Bath until the end of the 2025/26 season, allowing him to finish strong with the club that has been pivotal in his career development. The club confirmed his departure, stating, “The club can confirm Alfie Barbeary will leave the club at the end of the season.”

This sequence of events is significant not only for Barbeary but also for both Bath Rugby and Saracens. Bath will be looking to fill the gap left by a key player, while Saracens aim to bolster their squad with a promising talent.

As the rugby season progresses, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how Barbeary adapts to his new environment and what impact he will have on Saracens in the upcoming season.
