Reaction from the field

In a heartfelt celebration of love and resilience, James Lewis, 53, tied the knot with Ed Otter in London on March 24, 2026. The wedding, attended by 50 close friends and family members, marked a significant milestone in Lewis’s life, particularly after his previous health struggles, including two cardiac arrests. The couple’s journey together has been nothing short of inspiring, showcasing the power of love in the face of adversity.

Lewis, who has been a patron of the Born Free Foundation for 24 years, met Ed Otter 15 years ago while playing pool in a local pub in Derbyshire. Their connection blossomed quickly, with Lewis recalling, “Was it love at first sight? Pretty much, yeah. I had split up from my wife, my daughter’s mum. And I was just ready.” This readiness for love led to a deep bond that would eventually culminate in their wedding.

On their wedding day, Lewis experienced a heart rate spike of over 250 beats per minute, a testament to the emotional weight of the occasion. Despite his health history, which includes surviving two cardiac arrests in 2013 and 2019, Lewis’s spirit remained unbroken. He expressed gratitude for the support he has received, stating, “He and Arabella get on so well. I’m very lucky,” referring to his 17-year-old daughter, Arabella, who now affectionately calls both him and Ed ‘Dad’.

Initially, the couple considered eloping to Yellowstone National Park, but they ultimately chose to celebrate their love in front of family and friends. The ceremony was a blend of joy and reflection, with Lewis’s daughter Arabella playfully asking, “which one of you is going to walk me up the aisle when I get married?” This moment encapsulated the warmth and unity that the family shares.

Lewis, who founded Bamfords Auctioneers in 2002, has built a successful career in the auction world, becoming a familiar face on shows like Bargain Hunt and Flog It! until the latter’s conclusion in 2020. His professional journey has been marked by a commitment to excellence and a passion for connecting with people through art and antiques.

As the couple embarks on this new chapter, they are not only celebrating their love but also the blending of their families. The support from their loved ones has been a cornerstone of their relationship, providing a strong foundation as they navigate the complexities of life together.

While the couple’s future looks bright, details remain unconfirmed about their plans for a honeymoon or any further celebrations. However, one thing is certain: James Lewis and Ed Otter’s love story is a testament to resilience, hope, and the enduring power of love.
