Urgent: kendamil infant formula recall Due to Contamination Concerns
What Happened
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has announced a recall of Kendamil brand infant formula due to potential contamination with cereulide toxin. The affected products are one-kilogram containers of Kendamil Infant Formula with Whole Milk, manufactured on ‘2025 MA 01’ and best before ‘2027 MA 01’. The specific lot numbers involved in the recall are 897274 and 888632.
Why It Matters
Cereulide is a toxin produced by the Bacillus cereus bacteria, which can cause symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain. The toxin is heat stable, meaning it cannot be eliminated through cooking or preparation methods. Although no illnesses have been reported in connection with this product, the CFIA advises consumers to refrain from consuming, using, selling, serving, or distributing the recalled items.
What’s Next
Consumers who have purchased the affected Kendamil infant formula are urged to stop using it immediately. They can dispose of the product securely or return it to the store where it was purchased. The recall affects products sold at Costco Wholesale stores across Canada, and further information can be found on the CFIA website.
